Tournament Startegies-Start Early-Stay Late

By Steven Neu | Dec 30, 2008

Welcome back-Your continued support is appreciated. Enjoy your fishing day!!

A few years ago I was practicing for a local end of year championship “buddy” tournament. It was a two day event starting on Saturday and ending on Sunday. I was practicing on a Friday with no luck. The water on the south end of the lake was dirty and something just didn’t feel right.

It was chain of lakes and I decided to completely change my approach and travel to a different lake altogether. Continue Reading >>

Bass Tournament Strategy-Don’t get Discourage-Take a Backwards Approach

By Steven Neu | Dec 30, 2008

Instead of focusing on what is not working focus on the fact that you just eliminated what is not working!!

It has happened to all of us. We are practicing for a tournament or anxious for tournament day to arrive after finding all those fish the day or weekend before. We arrive shaking, nervous and anxious to get the day started, can’t even barely make the first cast. We start fishing and nothing… 15 minutes go by nothing…then an 1/2 hour….then an hour. Last weekend or the day before they were chasing bait, hitting top water eating an occasional crank bait… now nothing. Continue Reading >>

Fish Green

Bass fisherman and outdoor enthusiast alike share an important role in conserving our environment. Conservation is an important step in keeping our outdoors, wildlife and ourselves healthy and happy. There has been a lot of discussion lately on green living, and other environment issues. While we can not control all of the issues surrounding a more green and healthy living we can take a few steps to insure we are doing our part to help conserve our most natural of resources, water and the outdoors.

Tournament Tips and Strategies-Slow Down on Practice Days

By Steven Neu | Dec 29, 2008

With the modern day bass boats being equipped with 200 plus outboards, we all tend to travel 70+ mph to get from one spot to another. While it is perfectly acceptable on tournament days-consider slowing down on your practice and fun fishing days. About 2 years ago I was practicing for a local tournament on my home lake and wash checking a drop off which had  some small schooling fish which I found the previous weekend. I had my fish finder on along with the depth and fish alarm. After verifying the fish were still there I decide to go to another area. While I was running to my next “hole” I past an area Continue Reading >>

Fishing the Spawn-Part 3 in a Series Sight Fishing

By Steven Neu | Dec 27, 2008

Catching Bass on Bed-”Sight Fishing”

Let’s start with the ethical stuff first. Spawning bass are in the process of keeping our natural resource stocked with fresh bass to help insure our sport will be alive for a very long time. There is a moral debate as to whether or not fish should be caught of the bed.  I will leave it up to the reader to decide.

  • If fishing for fun treat the fish carefully, catch them, take a photo and put back in same spot as quickly as possible.
  • If fishing a tournament, at a minimum treat the fish more carefully than otherwise, if you are culling fish try to cull at the spawn site where the fish were caught, if it is a local bass tournament and you are allowed, try to take your catch back to the area where they were caught.

protectbed2For those anglers who have never tried to catch fish on bed, it is not as easy as it sounds. It requires a great deal of patience and dedication. But once mastered watching that lunker Continue Reading >>

Out of the Box Tournament Strategies

By Steven Neu | Dec 25, 2008

Tournament Anglers seem to love to travel as far as they can to their latest and greatest spot holding fish. We love to race at 70 plus mph to get the adrenaline pumping to start the day. It’s happened to all of us; found a group of fish on practice day only to get to the area on the morning of the tournament and nothing. What Happened? Did the fish go to another county overnight.  Did they eat everything in site the day before. I think they are still there laughing at us. Continue Reading >>

Seawall-Bass Structure???

By Steven Neu | Dec 24, 2008

Seawall BassFishing the Seawall

If you fish in a populated residential area you most likely have canals or shorelines with various forms of seawalls. I live on a lake in South Florida which comprises of a network of residential canals and main lakes. The majority of the canals have various forms of sea walls and docks. While many anglers concentrate on the docks and the cover along the docks and seawalls such as lilly pads, grass, and submerged grasses which grow 2 to 3 feet away from the actual seawall. I concentrate on Continue Reading >>
